The Ecological Business Program (Ecobiz) recognizes businesses and shops that reach the highest standards in minimizing their environmental impact. The goal of the program is to prevent and minimize pollution generated by small businesses in the Lane County area. Currently, there is one multimedia (air, water, and solid waste) certification program for automotive services.
Warm Homes - Clean Air
The Warm Homes/Clean Air project is a collaborative effort between a number of public organizations to bring funding resources to residents of the Oakridge/Westfir community. The project has been developed to match residents with funding programs that help with the costs of home repairs and heating system upgrades.
Drug Take-Back Event - 2010
This Lane County event was part of a statewide effort aimed at reducing the risk of household medicines being misused, abused, accidentally consumed by children, or improperly disposed in a manner that threatens water quality. More than two dozen other Oregon cities held similar events on March 13, 2010.
Rehab the Lab Project - 2009
Lane County Public Works Waste Management Division, in collaboration with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the Springfield Utility Board (SUB), collected and disposed of outdated, unneeded or unwanted chemicals from Lane County high school and middle school science and art class labs.
Agricultural Chemical Removal Project - 2006/2007
The Eugene Water & Electric Board and other local and state entities organized and sponsored the agricultural chemical disposal effort to help growers get rid of materials that could pose a threat to the sources of drinking water for more than 250,000 people in Eugene, Springfield and other portions of the Southern Willamette Valley.
